The H.E.L.P. program relies on a mix of private and public funds to accomplish its mission of helping low- and moderate-income homeowners avoid foreclosure. Organizations that contribute funding to the program are rewarded with Community Investment Tax Credits from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. These credits allow donors with a Maryland state tax liability to receive a state tax credit of up to half of their contribution. The credit is in addition to the federal charitable contribution deduction.
